LEIKA is a rock band influenced by the British post-punk and punk movements. To date, the band has recorded two albums (‘Space on Tuesday’ and ‘Love on the Run’), two singles, and two EPs on its own imprint, and released these across the world. Blistering performances at the Isle of Wight and Unsigned London festivals saw the band’s profile sky rocket, coinciding with their appearance on BBC 6 Music, for the fourth time.  ITV Television have very recently taken notice of LEIKA’s rise and featured our music to several million viewers on their ‘This Morning Show’ !

You have to see LEIKA in the flesh to really appreciate how their uncompromising and intensely energetic performances have captivated the ears and hearts of audiences across the UK. Click here for gig listings.

Leika is:
Romano Giorgi – lead vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards
Jonathan Mann – lead guitar, keyboards, vocals
Brian O’Connell – drums, electronic percussion
Keith Perry – saxophone, vocals, occasional guitar
Thomas Evans – bass guitar, backing vocals

Formed by Jonathan Mann and Romano Giorgi,  they initially completed their line-up with Roberto Pinagli on bass and Jonas Golland on drums. In this formation, the band recorded their first eponymous EP. 10952530_10154187881963018_1268812865367835142_nFollowing this, virtuoso saxophonist Keith Perry was recruited, adding a very unique edge to an already successful indie-rock sound. Powerhouse drummer Brian Connell replaced Jonas, finally adding a much-needed consistency, drive, and a harder rock edge to the Leika sound. With the recent addition of bassist Tom Evans, the band has taken on even more funk.

The band enjoyed warm reviews from their well-received debut album Space on Tuesday. Even PitchFork were kinda nice to us (see reviews).

Following this, the band returned to the studio to record with prodigious producer Greg Haver (John Cale, Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals, Catatonia, Bullet for My Valentine), and released an old-style AA-side single, Remote Control and Drops.

The band was recently back in the studio, recording new material, which as yet is unreleased, unnamed, unfinished, but damned exciting.

Combining intelligent songwriting with tunes you can actually sing along with, the band continues to entertain, surprise, and amuse, bravely offering harmony-driven ditties to challenge the very best of indie rock.

Leika continue to gain attention from scrapes, furtive associations, gentle nudges, and sometimes straightforward flattery from the likes of The Doves, Tim Burgess, Spencer Davis, and – weirdest of all- Bon Jovi. They have enjoyed airplay from both Chris Hawkins (three times now) and Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music, and have recently been invited to provide music for an Australian film, an opportunity they relish.

The best way to appreciate Leika is to see the band in the flesh, where their post-punk energy is a hallmark of their unique presence on the live circuit. They have played all over the UK, and have plans for European dates in the coming future.
